'Mum stopped breathing - I was told to prepare for the worst' says Gemma Collins amid hospital horror

Gemma Collins has revealed she was told 'prepare for the worst' after her mum, Joan, was rushed to hospital and placed in intensive care. The heartbroken reality TV star, 43, opened up about the terrifying moment her mum stopped breathing as the frantic star called an ambulance.

Sharing a video with her 2.2 million followers, she said: "So last week I had the shock of my life when my mum stopped breathing. I called an ambulance and was told to prepare for the worst and would I like resuscitate her."

Earlier Gemma took to social media to share that her mum is "really ill at the minute." Gemma looked visibly upset as she explained: "My mum is really ill at the minute, she's in intensive care. "It's been a hell of a time and you know, I'm really happy, and well not that happy, because my mum's in intensive care, but she is on the mend, thank God."

Gemma didn't share exactly what prompted the sudden hospital admission but has openly spoken about her mum’s health struggles in the past. Thankfully, the star added that her mum is "stable now" but admitted the whole experience had made her look at life differently.

The former TOWIE star added: "It's been extremely tough but she's stable and hopefully she will be much better soon. No day is promised so make every day count."

Last summer, Gemma shared that her mum had been rushed to hospital as she posted a picture Joan with a breathing tube next to her nephew, Hayden.

Gemma wrote: "My beautiful Hayden come to see his Nanny [pink heart emoji] mum should be back home in a few days with us and thank you for all your kind messages [pink heart emoji] it sure is scary when your parents get older [pink heart emoji] THANK YOU to everyone at Queens Hospital Romford for all your help [pink heart emoji]".

In March of that same year, Gemma also shared that she had decided to undergo testing for the BRCA gene, known colloquially as the 'cancer gene' after her mum Joan had found a cancerous lump between her breast and her armpit.

Recalling the moment she learnt of her mum’s diagnosis to The Sun, Gemma said: "It was over the phone. I was in the back of a taxi in London and I was like, 'Are you all right, mum? Where are you?' — as we say every day, ten times a day.

"She said, 'Ah I didn't want to tell you, but I've had a lump in my breast',” the star added, before explaining that her mum had had the lump caught "in the nick of time."
