'Mother-in-law chose baby name for my daughter – but is angry about one thing'
When a pregnant woman's mother-in-law shared a beautiful baby name, she knew it would be perfect for her upcoming arrival.
As the family were talking about names, her boyfriend's mum suggested the name Cecily. Both parents "immediately fell in love with it" – so picked it for their newborn girl.
While they adored the name, the couple also enjoy using nicknames for their little one. Essie and Lily are both cute choices they've tried out in recent months.

However, when the mother-in-law found out they'd been using nicknames, she was apparently "furious". In a post on Reddit, the new mum said: "When she heard me call my daughter Lily, I could have sworn she made a face, but I brushed it off. I used the nicknames Essie and Lily a few more times throughout the visit before my boyfriend and I finally left.
"Yesterday, I woke up to a text (sent at 2am) from my boyfriend's mum where she basically told me that she's offended by my use of nicknames for MY baby. She said that since my daughter was named Cecily (her recommendation), she felt that I was attacking her name choice by using 'made-up random names' for my baby."
The grandma was so livid she also accused the parents of trying to "cut her out" of their lives. The mum thought it was an overreaction, pointing out they were simply using cute nicknames.
But her partner took his mother's side, saying she was "kind of right" about the nicknames. In tears about the awkward situation, the woman took to Reddit for advice.
She said: "It's my baby, and it's my right to LOVINGLY call her cute little nicknames. I know that my boyfriend's mum is being unreasonable. I seriously don't know what to say to her without completely kissing her a** and losing all self-respect."
Thankfully, people in the comments section were on the new mum's side. They urged her to not back down to the overbearing mother-in-law.
One person said: "If she had stipulations attached to her name suggestions, she should have clearly stated them before offering them. She's being absolutely ridiculous - this is your baby. If you wanna call her Lord Farquaad you can!"
And another added: "Her feelings are her problem. They have nothing to do with you. Her not shutting the f*** up is on her. It's your baby and you can call her what you want."
