The most stylish pyjama brands for lazy weekends
As a fashion editor (and self-confessed sleepy girl), I can't help but delight in shopping for nightwear once cosy season rolls around. It conjures up a whole new world of stylish possibilities, whether that's matching a pair of Honna striped PJs to a new kitchen colour scheme, or revelling in the indulgence of wafting around in an Eloise Jephson robe with a cup of coffee to lift my morning mood.
No longer just a necessity, post-lockdown gave us a taste for luxury loungewear, creating a buzz around nightwear labels with creations designed to be seen, doubling up as everything from breakfast attire and holiday cover-ups to partywear.
So, with autumn upon us once more, meet the pyjama brands here to elevate your chilled nights-in and lazy weekend wardrobe (as well as being super comfy for actually wearing to bed).
Eberjey
Eberjey’s tencel jersey pyjama sets are so soft they need to be touched to be believed. In the same style as traditional silk PJs but with the ease of being machine-washable, this classic piped-edge design comes in a range of delectable colours; we're spoilt for choice. You’ll also be in good company as Oprah and Jennifer Lopez are both fans of the brand.
Eloise Jephson
With all the designs hand-drawn in her London studio and printed in Worcestershire, Eloise Jephson’s namesake brand produces beautiful collections of unique prints inspired by zodiac signs and mythological themes. Knowing a thing or two about luxury (Eloise worked at Versace, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen before setting up her own business), everything from the pyjama sets and robes to the eye masks are made from the softest silk-satin.
Honna
As an ex-stylist on the hunt for the perfect pair of classic striped pyjamas, Barbara McMillan decided to create them herself, and the brand Honna was born in 2019. Originally developed in London, Barbara now runs Honna from her idyllic cottage in Hampshire, with the surroundings a constant source of inspiration. The oversized but flattering shapes are made from ultra-lightweight Indian cotton (GOTS-certified organic cotton), meaning they’re ideal for wearing all year round.
Tekla
You may already know Copenhagen brand Tekla for their cool striped towels or organic cotton bedding, inspired by Scandi minimalism. Now they have branched out into sleepwear with the same style of low-key luxury. We particularly love the traditional striped lounge trousers to wear out-and-about in summer.
Faune
Friends Nicola Niblett and Delia Ball originally founded Faune as a children’s nightwear brand, before expanding their creations into womenswear in 2020. Inspired by vintage finds, each design is carefully crafted as a night-to-day transitional piece, made to last, regardless of trends. Faune produce small collections to minimise waste, with any left-over material being used to make their accessories.
Siân Esther
With a background in buying at John Lewis, Siân Esther turned her sights to designing luxury pyjamas as an answer to what to wear when hosting guests at breakfast or holidaying with friends. Influenced by the ribbons, lace and buttons at her grandmother’s house, the collection is full of feminine and thoughtful finishing touches.
If Only If Nightwear
The prairie trend isn’t just taking over our daytime wardrobes, it’s influencing our nightdresses too. Lace trims, balloon sleeves and ruffled necklines all invoke a nostalgic feeling, perfect for warm summer nights or lazing around on holiday (with fans such as Pandora Sykes, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Lucy Williams seen sporting them as daywear). The luxury nightwear is made from 100% natural materials: GOTS certified organic cotton and silk.
Olivia Von Halle
If you’re in the market to invest in a truly decadent pair of pyjamas, Olivia Von Halle is the brand that levelled up the luxury nightwear game when it launched back in 2011 – and it's been on our most-wanted list ever since. Taking very fashionable inspiration from the lounging pyjamas worn by Coco Chanel in the 1920s, you’ll find bold, whimsical prints such as zebras and lions on her covetable collections, as well as more theatrical fringe edging.
Sleeper
With sleepwear so indulgent that it doubles up as some of the most sought-after pieces for party season, Ukrainian brand Sleeper is one to know, especially if you love channelling old Hollywood glamour with your morning cup of coffee. From their cult-classic feather-trimmed silk pyjamas, the brand has also expanded into linen summer dresses and bed jackets.
