This Morning's presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard were moved to tears as they honoured the late Sam Rubin with a heartfelt tribute. The beloved entertainment reporter, who passed away at 64 following a heart attack on Friday 10 May, was remembered during the show on Monday 13 May.
The programme opened with an emotional segment where the hosts shared the news of Sam's passing "with heavy hearts" and showed a poignant clip from KTLA, capturing the moment their anchor was overcome with emotion.
Viewers were treated to a lively montage celebrating some of Sam's most memorable moments on the show, featuring his fun interactions with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary. ITV's own Ross King joined in to reminisce about Sam's infectious enthusiasm for his work.
Cat reflected on Sam's passion and said: "You could really see how much he loved what he did." Ross chimed in with a touching sentiment: "I thought, 'Sam would've loved this,' and I hope Sammy, you're looking down at this."
He continued, acknowledging the love Sam received: "He was loved. I hope he can see the love that he's getting from the industry."
Sam had an impressive career spanning over three decades, becoming a staple on KTLA Morning News and serving as an entertainment correspondent for This Morning in the UK and the Nine Network in Australia.
Over the weekend, This Morning paid tribute to the beloved 'Hollywood Sam' on Instagram, confirming a special segment would be dedicated to him in Monday's episode. The post read: "He woke up Tinseltown every day for decades with his likeable charm and knowledgeable take on the movie world, he was on first name terms with the stars and became affectionately known as 'Hollywood Sam'. We will miss him."
In the comments section, This Morning's family of hosts, both past and present, expressed their heartfelt condolences. Alison Hammond commented: "He will be massively missed."
Ruth Langsford shared her sadness: "So saddened to hear this news. I had the pleasure of working with Sam many times during my years on This Morning. Sam was a brilliant broadcaster and the loveliest man. Sending my condolences and love to his family and colleagues in America."
Dr Zoe Williams conveyed her sympathies: "So sad. Sending strength to his family and loves ones." Dermot O'Leary reminisced: "Such a lovely man. Incredible knowledge, playful, funny, self deprecating. He wore his skills lightly. We'll miss you Sam."
