This Morning star hits back at Jay Slater trolls who attacked her online saying 'just shut up'

This Morning reporter Isla Traquair has hit back at critics after flying to Tenerife to cover the Jay Slater story - and defended the family of the missing teenager.

The 44-year-old said she'd had enough of vile comments attacking her and making remarks about the Gofundme page set up to help find him.

The Lancashire teenager was last seen leaving a nightclub on 23 June to walk back to his holiday accommodation. Jay's friend Lucy Mae set up a Gofundme, which now stands at nearly £50,000.

Defending her reporting of the story for ITV's daytime show she said: "I’m vastly experienced. I’ve won awards for what I do. And what do journalists do? We go to the location of a story and we report on them.

“I find it rather hilarious that has become the focus. I genuinely really don’t care about the stupid comments because they’re written by people who have absolutely no clue what they’re talking about."

In the video on TikTok she said firmly: “I’m getting really angry about the Gofundme stuff. It’s an automatic thing to do. These really annoying people - just shut up. Just leave them alone for God’s sake.

"My head is going to explode. I’ve not had enough sleep.”

In her latest video she said she was heading back to Tenerife, warning followers: ""Don’t send me AI videos. Use your head. But I’m grateful.”

Isla came under fire from some This Morning viewers, with one insisting: "Yesterday Isla Tarquair slams amateur sleuths for heading out to the location where #jayslater went missing in Tenerife, interfering & hampering police efforts.

"Today, Isla is in Tenerife & goes to location Jay Slater where went missing.??"

Spain's Civil Guard confirmed this week that efforts to find missing Jay in a remote mountainous area had been called off. Officers from the UK say they are still willing to help but that police in Tenerife said they were "satisfied they had the resources they need".

However, despite the search having ended, detectives reportedly returned to the Airbnb where the missing teenager stayed in Tenerife just before he disappeared.

Jay was on the island to attend the NRG music festival with two friends and his last known location was the Rural de Teno Park in the north of the island - a distance of 11 hours walking from where he was staying.

Despite unfounded speculation online, officers have not found any evidence that Jay is a victim of crime.
