Mom Gives Birth to Twins — and Immediately Notices 1 Has a Crooked Jaw (Exclusive)

• Taylor Deal was surprised to find out she was pregnant with twins, as a twin herself

• Throughout her pregnancy she went for her regular scans and checkups, noticing in an ultrasound that one of her twins was positioned right on top of the other

• When she delivered her babies, there was a clear difference between the girls that was evident immediately

When Taylor Deal gave birth to her twin daughters, she noticed right away that something was up.

Before giving birth, Deal, whose a twin herself, was shocked that she was even having twins in the first place. “I found out I was having twins when I was with my mother,” Deal, who is a twin herself, exclusively tells PEOPLE.

“We were beyond surprised to find out it was twins. I know that might sound silly, but there’s typical wise tales about how they skipped generations, so I was surprised," she continues.

During the pregnancy, the ultrasound scans revealed that Twin A was positioned directly on top of Twin B. Examining the scan through the lens of her professional experience as a labor and delivery nurse, she didn’t initially consider the positioning to be a major issue.

“There’s so many things to worry about when it comes to twin pregnancies, so the fact that one was technically on top of the other was never a concern for me,” Deal notes. “I figured that happens in most pregnancies, and I think it does happen in most, so the weight of one on top of the other never went through my mind as being an issue.”

However, after birth, it became apparent that Twin A’s jaw was visibly crooked, which was a direct result of the sustained pressure of Twin B’s position. Despite reassurances from doctors, Deal wanted to explore all available options to ensure her daughter’s well-being.

“As a twin, I know how much twins can be compared, so I wanted to make sure that I gave her every opportunity to fix this if this was going to be a long-term issue,” she explains. Deal turned to alternative therapies, seeking help from both a chiropractor and a cranial sacral massage therapist.

While the chiropractic adjustments gave minimal help, the cranial massage therapy did provide some relief. “When we would take her there, she would kind of favor one side of her neck, and her jaw would be obviously more to the side. After therapy, her whole body would just open up and relax,” Deal shares.

Since sharing her story on TikTok, where it's gone viral with more than 5 million views, many users have commented with tales of similar situations. Regardless, Deal wants it to be known that even if her child had a slightly crooked jaw, she was made wonderfully. “She is absolutely perfect to me no matter what. I want to make that clear," the proud mom says.

With the alternative therapies, Twin A’s jaw has gradually corrected itself. “It took about three months until I could look at her and no longer see that visual asymmetry,” Deal shares.

Now, at 1 year old, both twins are thriving and there are no discernible differences between them. “She’s doing great and never had any issues as far as feeding goes," Deal says. "She’s been a happy and perfect baby and now looking at both of them as twins, you can’t tell which one had the issue at all. They are both happy 1-year-old girls.”

Beyond that, they're happy 1-year-old girls who had an extra-special celebration; in another now-viral TikTok, Deal reveals that her daughters were born on her birthday, which she (obviously) shares with her own twin. "No it was not planned," she says in the video. But she calls it "the best birthday presents ever."
