This Modern $3.2 Million Alpine Lodge in Canada Was Inspired by Architect Philippe Starck
What would a mansion in the Canadian mountains look like if it were designed by Philippe Starck? Well, this newly listed lakeside estate in Estérel, Quebec, wasn’t conjured by the multidisciplinary French designer and architect, but it is a riff on the award-winning creative powerhouse’s most iconic works.
Known as the Estérel Penthouse, the contemporary abode is located roughly an hour outside of Montreal along the picturesque waters of Lac Masson. The lavish alpine retreat is nestled among the Laurentian Mountains, one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. On the market for a cool $4.25 million CAD (or roughly $3.19 million), the home originally came up for sale earlier this year for $5.5 million CAD (about $4.1 million).

The seller tapped architect Stephane Lessard for the design, which claims to take inspiration from Starck’s YOO condo concept, and the glassy, ranch-style property was completed in 2022. It was constructed by a local high-end home builder as his personal residence, Mansion Global reported. From the exterior, the steel frame is clad in white oak and copper. “He built it for himself, but he always had a plan to sell it,” listing agent Josh Jagermann with The Agency told the real estate site. There are five bedrooms and seven bathrooms in about 4,600 square feet, plenty of room to accommodate family and friends.
Internally, the home essentially has no choice but to embrace its natural surroundings with its open, airy floor plan and expansive 10-foot windows. Throughout the dwelling, you’ll find heated flooring and tons of high-end European hardware. One of the standout spaces is the chef’s kitchen, which has been decked out with glossy Calacatta Michelangelo marble and double of all its top-of-the-line appliances. Elsewhere, each of the five bedrooms is kitted out with its own private bathroom.
Outside, there’s an impressive 250 feet of water frontage on Lac Masson and for when the lake gets too cold to comfortably swim, the modern stunner sports a heated infinity pool. The dock is no doubt super convenient come summertime.
“It’s a very striking house, both inside and out,” Jagermann told Mansion Global. “It’s all one level, very L.A., very minimalist, very out of the ordinary for this area.”
