Miquita Oliver has opened up about feeling "ashamed" when she was declared bankrupt in her late 20s.

The TV star was 28 when she was forced to move back home with her mum in 2011 after a £170,000 unpaid tax bill.

Speaking, now aged 38, to The Sunday Times' magazine, the broadcaster recalled how she had been "running wild" as her presenting career flourished.

She said: "What goes up must come down, though, and after having the most incredible time, one day I was declared bankrupt and had to move into my mum’s spare bedroom.

"I was so ashamed and felt like I had brought shame on her too.

"I think, though, she’s actually prouder of me for coming through that and rebuilding my life."

Oliver rose to fame as the co-host of Channel 4's Popworld from 2001 to 2006, and then went on to present on T4 from 2006 to 2010.

Of that time, she said: "I suddenly became very well known, which I navigated as a teenager on my own at first, and then my best friend, Lily [Allen], became the biggest pop star in the world."
