While we're no strangers to couples co-ordinating on the red carpet, it's rare for a matching ensemble to transcend the world of fashion. It's probably why we're nothing short of obsessed when it comes to a rare paired-up beauty moment. Cue Miley Cyrus' extreme 1970s bouffant, followed shortly by boyfriend Maxx Morando's similarly voluminous vintage cut.

The Grammy-decorated Flowers singer arrived to the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in true statement fashion, wearing a custom-made, gold Margiela dress; one of three standout looks of the evening. Vintage Bob Mackie, anyone?

The word on everyone's lips, however, was Cyrus' extreme windswept hairstyle (and its undeniable resemblance to partner Morando's signature 1970s mullet). Think less Jane Fonda, more 'a punk, Raquel Welch from the 1970s', Miley's hairstylist of eight years told Byrdie.

'This last year l featured Miley‘s wet look for hair,' Bob Recine revealed via Instagram. 'This year we decided we wanted something dry and bigger, more fuller hair, but sexy and tousled and touchable.'

The stylist began by priming Cyrus' damp hair with anti-humidity spray (a no-brainer for a look destined for hours of award show wear) and heat defence spray from root-to-tip.

'I begin by adding two products to damp hair. Section by section from root to tip I apply Nexxus Epic Shine Anti-Humidity Spray with its anti-humidity qualities to keep moisture and humidity from changing my end result. I also applied Nexxus Prep&Protect Head Defense Spray to make sure I’m conditioning and protecting hair from high heat as I begin to blow dry each section with a medium round brush.'

He then went on to softly tease the roots of hair, adding a few velcro rollers on top to achieve that essential superstar bounce. To finish the look, he applied a few drops of hair oil between his fingers to give the look a 'jewel like shine and light reflective qualities that make hair soft and nourishingly healthy'.
