Meredith Duxbury admitted to major makeup secret before TikTok went offline
It's been a whirlwind 24 hours over on TikTok. On Sunday 19 January, the app went offline in the US following a Supreme Court ruling, but within hours it was back up after an intervention from Donald Trump (who will be inaugurated as President today). With American's well aware of the impending doom facing TikTok (before they knew how swiftly it would be restored), many took to the app to share some confessions — including beauty influencer Meredith Duxbury.
Meredith rose to fame due to her — often controversial — makeup application technique, which sees her use *a lot* of product. We're talking pump, after pump, after pump of foundation.
While the technique clearly worked wonders at building Meredith's presence on TikTok — she has over 18 million followers on the platform — all might not have been quite as it seemed.
Joining in with the confession trend this weekend, Meredith told fans: "Since TikTok might be getting banned, there's one secret I need to share with you..."
"I did wipe some of those 10 pumps off," she revealed in the video, before adding "or did I?" in the caption.
In the comments section there was a mixed reaction to the admission, with some fans feeling let down while others suggested they knew all along. "My whole life was a lie," one shocked fan commented, as someone else said: "I want a hand written apology letter right now."
"I feel betrayed," another loyal fan said, as a fourth chimed into the chat with: "No this is the only one that has hurt."
"We know babes," someone on the flip side wrote, as another unsurprised follower added: "In da club, we all knew." A similar response read, "The way my jaw did not drop."
Other people in the comments section questioned the impact that admissions like these might have for influencers in the future. "I fear this trend isn't actually helping these influencers become 'relatable' it's just confirming for us who we can trust and who we can't," one person said, as another agreed: "Imagine TikTok doesn't get banned and now no one trusts you."
To that, Meredith replied: "Hahahha it's a joke."
Once the app was back up an running on Sunday evening, Meredith resumed her usual posting, to which one person commented: "Well this is awkward 😬."
