Melania Trump will reportedly meet the Queen at Windsor Castle next month
She skipped President Trump’s most recent international trips, but not even Melania Trump can resist the opportunity to rub elbows with Queen Elizabeth II.
The Sun claims that the Foreign Office has been advised that the First Lady will join her husband for his trip here next month. The couple will reportedly meet the Queen at Windsor Castle, where she typically spends her time in the summer months.
The President’s visit on Friday 13 July is not a state visit. Instead, the British ambassador to the USA is calling Trump’s one-day stop in the UK a “working visit”.
Therefore, an audience with the Queen isn’t required.
However, the BBC reported in April that a meeting between Trump and the Queen is “likely” during his visit – and no doubt Melania will be present at the meeting if she accompanies her husband to the UK.
Though the First Lady’s team has yet to confirm her travel plans, President Trump’s visit appears to be going ahead.
Sources tell The Sun that he and FLOTUS will be treated to a presentation by the Coldstream Guards regiment upon their arrival at Windsor Castle.
It won’t be Melania’s first brush with British royalty. She met with Prince Harry during the 2017 Invictus Games in Canada. The royal and his new American wife are not currently expected to greet the Trumps.
And in 2005, just months after the couple’s wedding, they met Prince Charles.
A meeting with the Queen might not be confirmed, but Trump is set to hold talks with Prime Minister Theresa May, Downing Street said, with further details to be “set out in due course”.
The July date follows the Nato summit in Brussels which the President is expected to attend.
