Grammy-winning American pop singer Meghan Trainor opened up about her experience with injectables this week on an episode of Workin' On It, the podcast she co-hosts with her brother, Ryan Trainor.

The 30-year-old admitted she can no longer smile due to Botox injections, revealing that she’s had 'too much Botox' and jokingly saying she needs help. 'To all my fellow girlies in your 30s out there, hi,' she said. 'I got too much Botox, and I need help.'

Trainor added that she has only had Botox 'a handful of times … just my forehead.' However, she expressed regret over a 'lip flip' tweakment – a procedure involving Botox injections in the upper lip to make it appear fuller.

'Someone convinced me with my little lips that if you did a lip flip, you put filler right above your upper lip, that you could have a beautiful flip on your upper lip,' she explained. 'And I could have one for the first time in my whole 30 years of living — it was not true.'

The singer, and mum of two boys, said the result of having a lip flip is that she can't smile in the way she used to. 'I cannot smile anymore. Everywhere I go, I cannot smile.'

In the video version of the episode, Meghan can be seen demonstrating the limited range of movement her mouth now has. Looking back, Meghan says she realises her smile 'lights up a room.' Now, however, 'it’s a dim light'. Meghan's brother and co-host added that he first noticed her smile change when they were on a shopping trip together. Afterwards, Meghan revealed she couldn’t 'unsee it', adding 'my face hurts to smile, to even try.'

The song writer then proceeded to show a photo of herself where she was clearly supposed to be happy but didn't convey that emotion. 'I don’t look happy. I look like I smelled someone’s fart … somebody help me,' she said.

As injectables gain popularity, experts are urging women to consider how these treatments can potentially affect your ability to connect with others. A study carried out by the University of California found that when Botox inhibits muscle contractions and decreases facial movement it affects people’s ability to relate to those around you.

Meghan was also candid about the pressure she feels to continue with these treatments and that positive reinforcement from fans encouraged her to keep getting Botox. 'People gave me compliments [saying] 'You look rested', so I was like, I’m going to do it again.'
