Meghan Markle will today attend her first official event with the Queen when she joins other senior royals at a services to mark Commonwealth Day.

Last month, the soon-to-be royal made her official royal working debut alongside fiance Prince Harry and future in-laws the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the first ever Royal Foundation Forum.

And today, the bride-to-be will make an appearance, alongside her fiance Prince Harry, at Westminster Abbey at a Commonwealth Day service, which will also be attended by the Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prime Minister, Theresa May.

The Duke of Edinburgh, who has effectively retired from public duties, will not be at the annual event.

After the service, William, Kate, Harry and Meghan will attend a private reception for those involved in the event.

The Commonwealth service is the largest annual inter-faith gathering in the UK and former One Direction band member Liam Payne will perform during the service.

The Queen is the head of the Commonwealth, and both Harry and Meghan have previously indicated their commitment to the institution during an interview to mark their engagement.

Harry explained that the soon-to-be wed couple were looking forward to travelling around the Commonwealth and meeting some of the 2.4 billion people from the 53 member states.

Last year, Prince William faced criticism for skipping the service to attend his controversial lads-only skiing holiday in Verbier.

Social media poked fun at the royal’s “dad dancing” when video footage emerged of him throwing some shapes on the dancefloor.

The Commonwealth Day service, which celebrates peace and democracy between the 53 countries, was instead attended by brother Prince Harry and his grandmother, the Queen, who wore a hot pink suit for the regal occasion.

This year all eyes will be on Meghan and the sartorial choice she makes for her first official event with her fiance’s grandmother.
