Meghan Markle reveals why she wore "a lot of colour" on the Sussexes' UK farewell tour
Following the release of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's eponymous Netflix docu-series Meghan & Harry: Becoming Royal last week, there have been a LOT of royal headlines doing the rounds. From the Duke and Duchess alleging that the Royal Family 'planted' news stories about them, to details about the filming location, there seems to be plenty to unpack.
Now, with Volume II dropping this morning, the news cycle is far from over. One of the main tidbits to come out of the most recent ep was something Meghan said about her style changing since becoming a member of the Royal Family. More specifically, how she made a conscious decision to embrace more colourful outfits as the Sussexes completed their UK 'farewell tour' before stepping away as senior members of The Firm.
"'Until that last week in the UK, I rarely wore colour. I never wanted to upstage or ruffle any feathers, so I just tried to blend in. But I wore a lot of colours that week,' she explains in episode five.
"It just felt like, 'well let’s just look like a rainbow'."
For context, in Volume I, Meghan spoke about how she used to avoid wearing colour during her time in the UK so as to avoid 'embarrassing' the family.
"Most of the time that I was in the UK, I rarely wore colour," she said. "There was thought in that. To my understanding, you can't ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there's a group event, but then you also shouldn't be wearing the same colour as one of the other, more senior members of the family.
"So I was like, well what's a colour that they'll probably never wear? Camel? Beige? White? So, I wore a lot of muted tones, but it also was so I could just blend in.
"Like, I'm not trying to stand out here. So there's no version of me joining this family and trying to not do everything I could to fit in. I don't want to embarrass the family."
So there you have it, Meghan's wardrobe choices before and after the Duke and Duchess announced they were stepping back from their royal roles were far from a coincidence.
