Meghan Markle and Prince Harry enjoyed a traditional British roast at their local over the bank holiday weekend with baby Archie in tow, according to reports.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, 34 and 38 respectively, are said to have had a £15 roast dinner at the Rose and Crown Winkfield in Ascot, Windsor last Sunday, 25 August.

The royal couple has lately been criticised for flying a private jet to Ibiza for a holiday with three-month-old son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor – a round-trip said to have cost £20,000, which took place to celebrate Markle’s 38th birthday on 4 August.

But they enjoyed a much more laidback outing, according to a source, enjoying a £15 roast while Archie lay in a cot beside their table.

“They were on a table with, I presume, a private secretary. Meghan was cradling Archie most of the time. The little lad was as good as gold, I didn’t hear him cry once while he was there,” according to a 53-year-old businessman speaking to The Sun.

He added: "No other customers recognised them. The staff clearly knew who they were but kept the service low-key.”

The pub would appear to be a local favourite of Meghan and Harry, who moved to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor in April this year ahead of the birth of Archie on 6 May.

“They did indicate to me they had been there before,” the source revealed, adding, “They just chatted away like any normal couple and were laughing a lot.”

On its website, the Rose & Crown Winkfield describes itself as a “modern British pub” which boasts “all the trimmings”.

The pub’s traditional beef roast is priced at £15.95. If Meghan – a reported flexitarian – was tempted to try a meat-free alternative during her visit, there is also a nut roast variety (which can be made vegan or vegetarian) for just £9.95.

Yahoo UK contacted the Rose and Crown in Winkfield, who denied that a visit took place.

The pub is a 12 minute drive from the Sussexes’ Frogmore Cottage home.

The pair have numerous local pubs to choose from nearby, including a 200-year-old pub bearing Harry’s grandfather’s title, The Duke of Edinburgh, just down the road.
