Christmas might still be three weeks away, but we’re already counting down the days until the royal family walk through the streets of Sandringham to attend a service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.

While we were looking forward to buying everything Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are wearing on December 25, the Palace recently confirmed that the Duchess of Sussex will be celebrating the big day with her own side of the family.

However, contrary to rumours that Meghan and Prince Harry will be spending time in the US for the festive holiday, it’s now been suggested the royal couple might be celebrating their first Christmas as parents in the UK after all.

During royal expert Omid Scobie’s recent recording on his The HeirPod podcast, he explained that the couple spent time with ‘close family’ during Thanksgiving.

‘As we record this, the Sussexes are away, they are on their break right up until Christmas,’ Omid said. ‘I understand that they celebrated Thanksgiving privately with close family, which is lovely.’

According to Omid, the pair and their son Archie are spending time away in the US ‘until Christmas’, which might suggest that the trio plan to come home and celebrate the festive period at their home Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

After all, a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan confirmed last month that the couple will be skipping Christmas at Sandringham with Queen Elizabeth II this year in favour of spending the time with the American’s mother, Doria Ragland. They did not, however, state where in the world the family would be celebrating the Yuletide period.

‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month,’ the spokesperson said in mid-November.

‘Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess' mother Doria Ragland.’

The statement also noted: ‘This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen.’

This year will mark Meghan Markle’s first Christmas as a mother to her seven-month-old son and could be her third in the UK since her engagement to Prince Harry, if the pair choose to celebrate the time here.

Last week, the couple shared their well wishes on Instagram for those celebrating Thanksgiving with the message: ‘Wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.’
