Fans go wild for caped outfit worn by Meghan to Queen's funeral: 'Breathtaking'
The Duchess of Sussex has been praised for the outfit she wore to the late Queen's funeral today.
Meghan, 41, wore a dramatic caped dress, teamed with a pair of matching black gloves and a wide-brimmed hat. She wore her hair in a low chignon, positioned to the left of the nape of her neck.
The look was completed with a pair of pearl and diamond earrings, given by the late monarch to Meghan as a wedding present after her 2018 nuptials to Prince Harry.
Fans of the look were quick to take to social media, praising the duchess' poise and elegance at the sombre occasion.
"Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is simply breathtaking," wrote one person on Twitter.
"No bee keeper net, no flowers and bows, no flashy jewellery and yet Meghan looks the most gorgeous and stylish, shining in pure elegance, simplicity and high fashion," commented another.
A third social media user tweeted: "Meghan looks gorgeous, but also like she is going to get engaged to your dad while you are at summer camp and then try to convince him to send you away to boarding school."
"Elegance personified," said a fourth. "Minimal jewellery. Minimal makeup. Natural beauty. Perfection."
"The fashion, the grace, the poise, the face. I have no choice but stan [sic]. Queen Meghan," enthused another.
The caped dress was created by Stella McCartney, the designer behind Meghan's evening wedding dress, and it's not the first time she's turned to the British brand for the elegant style.
The mum-of-two wore a similar dress by the brand in navy at a London concert held in honour of the Queen's 92nd birthday in 2018, and since, the caped dress style has become one of Meghan's go-to outfit choices for public appearances.
Later the same year, during a tour of Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and Tonga, she paid homage to Fiji in a cerulean blue floor-length caped dress by London designer Safiyaa, in the same shade of blue as the host nation's flag.
Meghan chose the same style by the brand two years later, this time in a bright scarlet hue, to attend an event at the Royal Albert Hall, in 2020. The red shade matched perfectly with Harry's military uniform.
In 2019, the Duchess of Sussex opted for a silk cream Dior gown with caped sleeves during a visit to Rabat, Morocco. The longer, flowing sleeves and floor-length silk style were perfect for adhering to the host nation's modest etiquette.
For one of her final public appearances in the UK before the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California, Meghan again returned to her go-to caped style, this time in the form of an emerald caped midi dress.
