Meghan Markle 'almost dated' love rat footballer Ashley Cole who 'pestered her for a date'

Earlier this week it was announced that Prince Harry is engaged to marry American ‘Suits’ actress Meghan Markle, who is no stranger to the spotlight thanks to her glittering TV career.

Now it has been claimed that the soon-to-be royal came incredibly close to dating Cheryl’s first husband, love rat footballer Ashley Cole.

Meghan revealed that she was being pursued by Ashley in an interview with UK journalist Katie Hind four years ago, with the actress even asking for Katie’s opinion on the star as she had no idea who he was.

Writing for the Mail Online, Katie claimed: “[Meghan pulled an] iPhone from her handbag, she pointed to the picture of a good-looking man on her Twitter account, and said: ‘Do you know this guy, Ashley Cole?

“She continued: ‘He wants to go out on a date while I’m over here in London. What do you think? Do you know him?'”

Katie informed Meghan of Ashley’s cheating past, with the footballer hitting the headlines in 2010 when it was revealed that he had cheated on his wife, Cheryl, on a number of occasions throughout their four-year marriage.

Upon learning of Ashley’s infidelity, Meghan opted to avoid a date with him, telling Katie: “Some of my friends told me to stay away from him too. I think I’ll leave it.”

At the time Meghan had just divorced her film producer first husband, Trevor Nelson.

The pair had married in 2011 on a Jamaican beach, splitting two years later after she landed her role as Rachel Zane in ‘Suits’.
