The Originals actress, 30, and husband Andrew Joblon have welcomed their first child together: a son named James Holt Joblon, she announced on Instagram Friday.

Holt revealed her pregnancy news on Instagram in October — seven months after revealing she had suffered a miscarriage and underwent a consequent dilation and curettage procedure.

“My heart is bursting. I’m so happy to share with you that we are having a baby! It still doesn’t feel real. These past few months have been filled with excitement, anxiety, tears, joy, uncertainty but most of all gratitude,” Holt captioned a photo that showed her cradling her baby bump alongside Joblon.

Reflecting on her miscarriage, the Australian actress said, “You never forget the deep pain of loss. It dims with time but it informs many of your experiences.”

The following month, Holt shared that the couple were expecting a son, writing on Instagram alongside a video of the big reveal, “Gender Reveal PSA: If you are absolutely, positively certain you’re having a girl, perhaps don’t buy a lot of pink things and choose a name before you confirm … ”

In February, Holt sat down for a chat with Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast, where she recalled the initial joy of finding out she was pregnant for the first time and the heartbreaking turn of events shortly thereafter, when the baby begun measuring small and the heartbeat disappeared.

It didn’t take long for the guilt to creep in, she admitted: “I just remember feeling this sense of, ‘Oh my God, what have I done? Have I done something? Was this my fault? Should I not have gone running? Did I eat something bad? Was it because I wore perfume? Is it because I had a glass of wine two days before I found out I was pregnant?’ “

But eventually, Holt embraced a forward-looking attitude, telling Dr. Elliot Berlin, “I feel I wouldn’t have met this little guy if that pregnancy had gone ahead and there must be a reason for that. … I’ve gotten to a place [where I think] there is a reason that happened to me and as awful as it was, I wouldn’t change it.”

“It’s really hard to say that because I don’t mean in a way like ‘I didn’t want that baby’ or ‘I didn’t want that life’ but I’ve learned so much and can now, hopefully, help other people through [their] journey,” the star added.

On Feb. 9, Holt celebrated her son on the way with an intimate baby shower, held at her Los Angeles home and attended by 30 of her closest friends and family members.

The elegant fête featured a set of large blue balloons reading “OH BOY,” as well as delectable-looking fruit and vegetable spreads for guests to nosh on.

Instead of showering the pregnant star with gifts, all guests were asked to bring children’s books. However, there was one traditional shower element that did make its way into the event: a delicious blue cake.

“The shower was such a special day because it made it all feel real for me. I pinch myself when I think about holding my little boy in my arms,” Holt told PEOPLE at the time. “It was really wonderful to have my family and friends together, many of whom had traveled a long way to be there.”
