Meet the cast of Patience from Breaking Bad villain to Gentleman Jack star

The cast of new crime drama Patience includes a Breaking Bad villain and a beloved Gentleman Jack star.

The new Channel 4 series introduces us to Patience Evans (Ella Maisy Purvis), an autistic woman with a clerical job in police records at the police force.

Patience's talents and potential are recognised by Detective Bea Metcalf (Laura Fraser) as she recruits her for a new role to help investigate serious crimes.

The six-part Channel 4 drama has been said to offer a "unique and authentic perspective on neurodiversity" and all neurodivergent characters within the show are played by neurodiverse actors.

The crime drama was filmed across York and Belgium in 2024 and its first episode will be broadcast at 9pm on Wednesday, January 8 on Channel 4. But who stars in Patience?

Beatrice is a Detective Inspector with the City of York Police and she boasts the best clear-up rate in the county. Bea brings Patience into her team and as she grows closer to Patience, professionally and personally, Bea will be forced to reassess everything in her life, from her approach to Police work to her son Alfie’s particular needs.

Jake is Bea’s colleague and long-standing partner in fighting crime, so it’s little wonder that he finds the arrival of Patience slightly confusing. He feels slightly concerned for this young, autistic woman and is thrown by her instinctive methods but begins to appreciate her skills and view of the world.

As Senior Investigating Officer on Major Enquiries, Baxter's job is already stressful but dealing with Patience and Bea severely stretches his management skills.

The Yorkshire actor is best known for appearing in Waterloo Road, Shakespeare & Hathaway: Private Investigators, The Halcyon AND Land Girls.

Ali Ariaie as Will Akbari

Ali Ariaie takes on the role of Will Akbari, who Bea and Jake turn to for all the boring procedural work and watching through hours of CCTV.

Ali Ariaie has also appeared in The Great, Persuasion, Doctors and Raised by Wolves.

Adrian Rawlins as Douglas Gilmore

Douglas Gilmour is retired and he lives with Patience live in his rambling, characterful house. Douglas is her protector, but he’s also aware that he must let her grow if he’s to keep her safe.

Adrian played James Potter in the Harry Potter film series, as well as appear in other TV shows and films including Chernobyl, Darkest Hour, Andor, Gentleman Jack, Death in Paradise and Dickensian.

Tom Lewis as Elliot Scott

Tom Lewis takes on the role of Elliot Scott in the new crime drama. The star is widely known for his role as Thomas Sowden in Gentleman Jack and appearances in A Discovery of Witches and the music video for Lewis Capaldi's Wish You The Best.
