The £15 candle our homes editor lovesSt Eval

Lighting candles is part of my home’s rhythm. I find it all mesmerising; the wicks slowly slouching, the flames dancing among the wax, the room bathing in a soft glow.

Put simply, I’m a total candle-head – but among the brands I ask for every birthday and Christmas (Diptyque, Lola James Harper and Foras, in case you're wondering) there's one hefty piece of fragrance real estate that deserves a special mention. Enter: St Eval.

I first came across St Eval's humble tinned candles a few years ago when I bought their bestselling Bay & Rosemary (which is still a firm favourite).

Since burning my first one (their candles burn for a solid 45 hours), St Eval candles have become a repeat purchase in my household – not to mention a brilliant stocking filler or gift for friends too.

Housed in sleek tins, simple terracotta pots or separated into smaller tea lights, St Eval candles come in all sorts of unassuming shapes and sizes.

But one thing they all have in common is the reasonable price. Take Oak for example, it smells like it costs upwards of £50, but it's currently on sale for £10.99, while the Bergamot & Nettle Scented Terracotta Tealights – which are the perfect accompaniment to your dinner table centrepiece – cost £4.20 each.

But the brand's crowning glory is of course its deliciously moreish scents.

The Moss candle currently lives on my coffee table, for I adore the cosy familiarity of this forest-meets-luxury scent.

And Samphire & Sage wafts a coastal summer freshness around my home all year round.

Green Vine is just as delightful, landing me back in my grandpa’s greenhouse as a child; the shrubbery stretching above me, the tomatoes bursting with life. It's magic in a tin.

There's beauty in the brand's own story too. St Eval is B Corp certified and based on a farm in North Cornwall. As they put it, 'we place people and the planet at the heart of our business'.

As for the ingredients, St Eval use a unique combination of mineral and vegetable waxes which are 'food grade' quality and do not contain any animal products.
