McFly kicked off a storming Isle of Wight Festival performance in the sunshine this afternoon in front of 60,000 fans, before Green Day take to the stage tonight.

However, star Danny Jones, 38, had to bring their set to an unexpected halt after forgetting a key part of the show the band had planned, leaving the crowd laughing by saying simply: "Oh s***."

The popular group, who told fans they are celebrating 21 years as a band, were performing their hit Obviously, which finishes with the lingering words: "He's not good enough for her."

Danny paused proceedings after the song saying: "Oh s***! I forgot to say when I do this we're going to hold it." He told the crowd, who are enjoying baking temperatures on the Isle of Wight this weekend: "Let me hear you one more time."

The group - made up of Danny plus I'm A Celeb winner Tom Fletcher, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd - then restarted the end of the song, with the crowd singing along with the final part.

The group arrived on the Isle of Wight this afternoon after catching the ferry over from the mainland, being pictured sitting alongside the ship's caption in an Instagram post captioned: "We're on our way."

McFly were one of the big draws in an Isle of Wight line-up that included The Streets, Pet Shop Boys, Crowded House and The Prodigy.

The festival is coming to a close tonight after a parade of bands that also included The Darkness, Keane, Blossoms, Simple Minds, Nothing But Thieves, Suede, Johnny Marr and Feeder.

Last night S Club performed hits including Reach, S Club Party and Don’t Stop Movin’ in their first ever festival performance, before making way for Jessie J.
