McDonald’s Is Finally Bringing Back My Favorite Discontinued Menu Item

And it's not the Snack Wrap.

Now that 2025 is upon us, the buzz surrounding McDonald’s bringing back its iconic Snack Wraps is louder than ever. While fans were skeptical about the initial 2023 announcement that Snack Wraps were returning, the time has finally come—yes, actually. McDonald’s shared the news its 2024 Q4 Earnings Call.

With chicken sales soaring, in part thanks to the popular McCrispy, Mickey D’s is leaning into its poultry menu.

“We're excited about the significant opportunity we see within our chicken portfolio and see the potential to add another point of chicken market share by the end of 2026,” McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski said in the earnings call.

The biggest push in chicken will come from the returning Snack Wraps, which were discontinued in 2016 and featured a breaded chicken tender, lettuce, cheese, and special sauce in a snack-sized soft-shell tortilla.

“This year, there is incredible energy for the return of Snack Wraps in the U.S.,” Kempczinski said.

However, while most Americans are excited about the wraps returning after years of petitioning, I’m excited about what that means for another menu item: the discontinued Chicken Selects.

McDonald’s crispy Chicken Selects were the fast food chain’s take on chicken tenders—and also the chicken offered in the classic Snack Wrap. They were discontinued in the United States in 2013, but have been available in the U.K. ever since.

Now, McDonald’s is bringing my favorite menu item back—well, sort of.

McDonald’s Is Bringing Back Chicken Strips This Year

Kempczinski stated in the earnings call that Mickey D’s will “launch a new chicken strip offering” this year, likely timed with the return of the Snack Wrap.

Calling it a “chicken strip offering” rather than Chicken Selects by name does make me skeptical—it’s unclear if they’ll be the same recipe as the early ‘00s. According to everything we know so far, the Snack Wrap will still called a Snack Wrap, after all. However, as long as a chicken tender is back at McDonald’s, all will be right in my world.

When Mickey D’s originally announced that Snack Wraps were returning, it was to coincide with its new McCrispy sandwich launch, which joined menus as a “Southern-style fried chicken sandwich” alongside the classic McChicken. So, will the new chicken strips follow the McCrispy recipe? That information isn’t available just yet, but you can bet that I’ll be keeping my ears open for when it is.

In addition to the returning Snack Wraps and chicken strips, McDonald’s announced that the Chicken Big Mac will return as a limited-time offering throughout the year as well.

Between the Snack Wraps, chicken strips, and Chicken Big Mac returning, Mickey D’s is going all in on chicken this year. But, don’t think we forgot about that 14-ounce Big Arch burger that’s supposed to be coming stateside soon—because I certainly did not.
