It’s already compulsory to wear a face mask or face covering while on public transport, but the latest government guidelines state that as of July 24 we will also be required to wear them when in shops as well.
Face masks have come a long way since we first starting buying them back in February.
They’ve evolved from the blue, mesh versions we’re used to seeing medical professionals in, with all sorts of high street and designer brands and celebrities creating their own versions.
Even Disney got in on the action with their own versions.
Cut to today and it’s becoming increasingly popular to match your face covering to your outfit, making a style statement out of the health accessory.
Celebrities and influencers are leading the charge on this one, with actor Busy Phillips sporting a double-gingham ensemble:
Lizzo showing us how to do swimwear safety in style:
Cindy Crawford going loud and proud with her matching face mask and blouse:
British businesswoman Isabel Spearman even launched #MatchYourMask on the Daily Dress Edit in collaboration with Intensive Care Society, a charity that provides support to the frontline ICU staff across the country.
Plenty of brands are now cashing in on the matchy-matchy look.
The Duchess of Cambridge-approved label, The Vampire’s Wife, has repurposed excess fabrics into a collection of printed face masks.
Similarly, dress designer Justine Tabak is now offering identical mask prints.
