Martin Lewis has shared important advice on how married couples can get extra £1,000 in their bank now.
The Money Saving Expert founder explained how marriage tax allowance allows you to transfer £1,260 of your personal allowance to your spouse or civil partner if they earn more than you.
If your claim is successful, it will lower the higher earner's tax bill for the tax year, but you can also backdate your claim if eligible.
Appearing on This Morning on Tuesday (26 March), the financial guru said: “You can claim back for four years before the current tax year which ends on 5 April, meaning £1,000 will be yours.”
