Married At First Sight star Andrew Jury was in prison when he sadly passed away aged 33. The reality TV star's death was announced on 30 June in a social media post shared by his MAFS co-stars.

More details surrounding Andrew's death have now been shared by his father. The 33 year old had been on remand at Mt Eden Corrections Facility in Auckland at the time of his passing.

Medical and emergency staff tried desperately to save the MAFS star, the New Zealand Herald reports. Andrew's father told the publication his family had grown concerned for his mental state prior to the court hearing.

His father Roy told the publication: "It should have been a red flag when Andy stopped communicating with family and friends. I and Andy’s extended family and friends are deeply saddened and bewildered by this distressing event."

Andrew appeared on the New Zealand edition of Married At First Sight in 2017. He was matched with Vicky Gleeson-Stokes, but the pair's relationship ended after filming wrapped.

Andrew's MAFS co-stars, including Brett and Angel Renall and Benjamin Blackwell, shared a tribute on social media in light of his passing. They shared: "It's with the heaviest hearts we've come together to acknowledge the passing of Andrew Jury. We had the absolute pleasure of filming and participating in a show which leaves us intricately linked for a lifetime. Despite his struggles, Andrew was always friendly and the life of the party during our shared experience and he really valued his time on the show.

"At this time our entire cast wish to send our deepest condolences and love to his family - Ben, Angel, Brett, Vicky, Haydn, Lacey, Claire, Dom, Aaron, Luke, Belinda."

After news of Andrew's death broke on Sunday, the makers of MAFS New Zealand, Warner Bros Discovery, issued a statement about contestants' welfare.

In a statement they said: "WBD takes duty of care extremely seriously and has protocols in place regarding the wellbeing of cast and crew. All MAFS NZ contributors have access to mental health professionals throughout the process, including pre-screening, during production and after broadcast."
