Marks & Spencer's £35 ruffle blouse could be straight off the runway
We've been in fashion no man's land for a few weeks now, not-so-patiently waiting for the first spring/summer pieces to start trickling into shops as the January sales come to a close. In our eagerness to snap up the best new-ins to add to our next-season wardrobe, we've been keeping a beady eye on the Marks & Spencer website – and happily, our sartorial tenacity has just been rewarded in the form of a hero blouse that's bound to sell out fast.
You may have noticed that boxy, borrowed-from-the-boys shirts have been taking a backseat on recent runways in favour of a much more romantic, boho aesthetic. There's no doubt about it: 2025 is going to be the year of the floaty, frilly, lacy, ruffle blouse. So, when we saw that M&S had dropped a perfect take on the trending style, with a price tag of just £35, it naturally went straight into our baskets (and that of a lot of shoppers, as it's already been tagged as 'Popular').
V-Neck Frill-Detail Blouse
This pretty ivory blouse, with its ruffled neckline, frilled placket, voluminous sleeves and gathered cuffs, is the epitome of the carefree, ethereal vibe that the fashion world is currently trying to encapsulate. Would Stevie Nicks and Sienna Miller wear it? You bet they would. Plus, it's giving us major designer vibes by reminding us of Chloé's now iconic AW24 collection that has spearheaded the current boho revival. Not to mention making us feel like we've stepped straight out of a BBC period drama.
Wondering how best to style a ruffle blouse? These lightweight, feminine tops marry beautifully with tougher leather trousers or denim, particularly '70s-style flared jeans. They also look cool under blazers, for that masculine/feminine clash, a la Claudia Winkleman on The Traitors. Or, try layering your frilly top over a slip dress for a stylish evening look. Come summer, they'll be crying out for teaming with white cropped jeans or distressed denim shorts.
Predictably, despite only just landing in M&S' new-in section, the ruffle blouse above is already starting to sell out. So, if you love it, you know what to do. Race you to the tills...
