One of the key trends this season is for preppy clothing and all things sports luxe, sparked by polo shirts dominating Miu Miu's spring/summer 2024 show. So when we spotted a new cardigan that played right into this look in Marks & Spencer's new-in section, we added it straight to basket.

The cardigan in question is more like a knitted jacket, with a slightly structured feel that makes it elevated enough for your workwear wardrobe, yet also easy to dress down with denim on off-duty days.

Contrasting stripes at the neck, hem and cuffs add that cool preppy touch, polished off with shiny gold buttons. Choose from ivory or black – for just £35, we'll take both please.

If this cardigan looks familiar, that might be because it bears a strong resemblance to a similar M&S style that's been in and out of stock repeatedly since dropping last autumn.

That sell-out capsule wardrobe hero comes in four colours – ivory, cappuccino, midnight navy or black – and is one of our transitional staples.

With their vintage Chanel vibes, chic knitted jackets have been everywhere lately – likely due to their 'quiet luxury' feel. We'll be wearing our new, preppier iteration with classic straight-leg jeans and loafers until the weather finally decides to warm up! Once it does, just swap in a pleated skirt and ballet pumps.

For an alternative option that also feels modern, look to Boden's popular Holly knitted jacket, which Cat Deeley recently wore to present This Morning. It flew off the shelves but has just landed back in stock...
