Marks & Spencer just released the trending jacket of the season
January may be dark, cold and gloomy, but the shortest day of winter is behind us now, meaning we're looking ahead to brighter, warmer, jollier spring – and our transitional wardrobes.
Given its domination of the SS24 runways (Prada, Loewe, you name it), we're expecting the barn jacket to continue reigning supreme as the cool-girl cover-up of the moment, especially as it's just so perfectly suited to our unpredictable British weather, and we've found the next fashion-influencer-favourite for under £100.
Easily recognised by its boxy shape and utilitarian style (usually comprising practical oversized pockets, a shirt-style corduroy collar and a showerproof wax coating), the barn jacket has been proving a firm favourite with the celebrity fashion set this season.
Forever It girl Alexa Chung has been its most loud and proud advocate, recently teaming up with the barn jacket brand, Barbour, for another collab (she also worked with them in 2019 and 2022, so is well ahead of the curve as per) and styling Mango's viral take on the trend for the high-street brand's new video series, The Mango Box. She's also never seen at Glastonbury without one. Plus, of course, these countryside staples hang in every member of the Royal Family's wardrobes.
