Spring is a tricky time for nightwear.

It’s too warm to wear the cosy cashmere two-piece you so love but it’s too cold to wear nothing, plus the latter makes dashing to the loo in the night a bit of a risky mission.

Enter: the nightdress.

Once reserved for effortlessly glamorous women in Hollywood films or your grandma, the humble nightdress has made a comeback as a sexy, comfortable nightwear option.

However, if you’ve looked around for one recently then you’ll know, they don’t come cheap.

Silk versions come in at hundreds of pounds and it’s best to avoid very synthetic feeling cheaper ones as they’ll make for a clammy rather than cosy night’s sleep.

Luckily, our reliable favourite, Marks & Spencer have come through for us one again.

Their Sumptuously Soft™ Lounge Nightdress costs just £18, is made from ultra-soft fabrics and has added stretch to ensure a cosy, flexible fit.

Available in a size six up to a size 26 and in two monochrome colours - charcoal and oatmeal mix - the sleeveless nightdress offers full-body coverage so that you can meander from bed to elsewhere in the house with ease.

It means you can make breakfast for the family or do a morning clean-up of the house without having to get dressed.

Or, change straight into your ‘pyjamas’ in the evening without feeling like a teenager.

Best of all, when it needs cleaning, you can just bung it in the washing machine and then throw it into the tumble dryer without having to worry about shrinkage.

Does a more perfect spring garment exist? We’d argue not.
