Mariah Carey Goes Sheer in Schiaparelli Dress to Receive Global Impact Award at Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective Event
Mariah Carey was honored with the Global Impact Award during a gala event organized by the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective on Thursday in Los Angeles. The singer showed up for the occasion in a sheer look created by Daniel Roseberry for Schiaparelli’s couture fall 2023 collection.
The dress, which features a copper corset bodice and a matching flowy skirt that transitions into a dramatic tail, debuted on Schiaparelli’s runway with model Adut Akech. Carey, whose stylist is Wilfredo Rosado, accessorized the dress with sparkling pumps and diamond jewelry.

Roseberry defined the collection as a work “about fantasy, this is about escapism, and as much as possible and as close as we can get, this is about truly fine art,” as previously reported by WWD.
Carey is the latest name to join the long list of celebrities who have embraced the sheer trend, which dominated 2023 and is still seen on current red carpet events in Hollywood. Florence Pugh, Kylie Jenner, Selena Gomez, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, Sydney Sweeney and more stars have worn sheer looks in the past couple of months.
During the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective event, Carey, who has been nominated for 34 Grammys and won five during her career, talked about her relationship with Black music.
“When I first started in the music business, I was often told to conform to certain expectations. I was not encouraged to focus on my love for Black music. It took countless arguments, endless tantrums — I’ll call them tantrums — and mostly unwavering determination but, eventually, I was able to reveal my authentic self, as they say, and create music that came from my heart. In doing so, I discovered a newfound sense of freedom and fulfillment,” she said.
The Black Music Collective event was held ahead of the 2024 Grammy Awards ceremony, which will take place on Sunday in Los Angeles.
