Love is in the air and at the forefront of Gucci’s latest Valentine’s Day campaign, Gucci Together, photographed by American portrait photographer Tina Barney. For the occasion, creative director Sabato De Sarno tapped some of fashion’s most beloved couples including Liya Kebede and Philippe Rousselet, Pixie Geldof and George Barnett, and style director Carlos Nazario and his partner Joe Morris. “With this campaign, we wanted to tell and celebrate love in all its nuances. The cast includes families of all kinds, couples in love, friends bound by deep affection,” De Sarno shares.

Included in the line up are Italian newlyweds Mariacarla Boscono and Claudio Stecchi. The Italian supermodel wrapped up her recent nuptials to the Italian Olympic pole vaulter with an intimate civil ceremony at the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence this past autumn, following an extravagant wedding in Sicily.

Asked to describe the ceremony, Stecchi mused, “Very fast, but still very emotional.” The couple, still basking in the bliss of their recent union, channelled that energy into the campaign, the goal of which was to explore authentic expressions of love by showcasing real families and couples.

“I think it was very real for us and I think the picture, the way it’s done, it felt like we were home,” Boscono recalls from the shoot. The fashion darling is certainly no stranger to being in front of the camera, but it’s not often she gets to share the spotlight with her husband and daughter, Marialucas, who was there in support. “We had children running around and then Liya (Kebede) arrived with all of her children. I haven’t seen her children since they were very young, so it was fun.”

The two couldn’t have felt more at home shooting with the Italian heritage brand. “When we were shooting…it felt like, oh yes, we were just like this Italian couple,” describes Boscono. Set in an Italian villa, the campaign captured a home setting filled with a sense of warmth and lived emotions. “It was an amazing villa, but the furniture felt like home. Like a place where you live, not like a luxury hotel where there’s no soul,” Stecchi says.

The Italian couple recently set down roots in Florence, the city of Gucci’s origins, and have never been more in love. “We like to be close all the time, like really physically close. Like touching hands, hugging, hugging while we’re walking,” Stecchi elaborated.

“I think Italians are very physical. We’re very affectionate,” Boscono added.

Even in the images where they’re not touching, the two still managed to carry the campaign’s intention of the power of intimate love languages through unspoken exchanges. In one image, Boscono stands in the foreground wearing a lacy dress and matching bag in the brand’s latest signature colour, Gucci Rosso Ancora. Meanwhile, Stecchi is seen lounging in the background with a crisp blue button-down and sleek trousers. “I’m giving him my back, but I think I’m dressed a little bit provocative and I think the picture is almost like he’s enjoying looking at his wife,” Boscono emphasizes.

Boscono didn’t shy away from sharing the little things Stecchi does on a daily basis that she has become quite fond of. “I have to say I’m a very lucky woman. Like he does everything,” Boscono praises. “He always makes my favourite food. He takes care of us as a family.”

One might expect it to be quite difficult for the pair to carve out quality time together, due to the demands of their respective careers and bustling schedules. And indeed, the two say they’re never together for more than eight days at a time, but they also recognise how gratifying it can be to return to each other after being separated. “It’s also nice because when you get back together, you have that fire, and you want to be together, like, you really want to do everything together,” Stecchi remarks.

Their unconditional love is the message Boscono and Stecchi hope people take away from this campaign. “I think this project was such a very natural [part] of what we are in our soul[s]...we knew already that, like approaching this project, it was going to be, you know, this is us, this is our love,” she says.

As for Boscono and Stecchi’s plans this Valentine’s Day? The simpler, the better. “We like the simple stuff, you know, go to the market, go for a walk, go for a coffee in the morning. We just want to be together,” Boscono concludes with.
