Margot Robbie has long been a trend setter. The Australian actress rocked a cropped bob before it was cool and now she’s debuted this season’s hottest look on the Oscars red carpet: A flirty fringe.

On Sunday night, Robbie joined the ranks of Hollywood’s elite as they descended on the red carpet at the 93rd Academy Awards looking almost unrecognisable.

The 30-year-old swapped her golden blonde colour for a sandy brunette shade, which she wore in a low ponytail to emphasise her brow-length fringe.

Robbie’s new hair framed her smoky eye make-up and soft pink lip colour, and allowed her floral Chanel dress to shine.

Her hairstylist, Bryce Scarlett, was the mastermind behind the look and fellow hair whizzes Cervando Maldonado and Tracey Cunningham were credited with giving the star her fresh ‘do' – the pair cut and coloured Robbie’s hair right before the show.

While Robbie wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, she was there celebrating Promising Young Woman, the Best Picture-nominated film that she produced.

While Robbie has gone brunette before, this is the darkest shade she’s been for a while - so could her acting-to-producing transition be the reason for the switch?

A 2009 survey from Superdrug found that 31% of blonde British women had switched to brunette to be “taken more seriously” at work and 62% of UK workers believe brunettes look “more professional”.
