Makeup artist posts Irma-inspired look, gets slammed

Makeup artist Kali Harlow has drawn inspiration from beauty bloggers, SpongeBob, and fairies for her intricate designs. But when she decided to use a colorful satellite image of the eye of Hurricane Irma to create her latest look, and shared a photo on Twitter, she caused a storm of her own.

The photo got over more than 4,000 likes, 1,000 retweets, and 350 comments, with many people calling her out for being “insensitive.”

Harlow looks flawless, but some are saying it’s an inappropriate time to be posting such a look, as Irma has destroyed entire communities in the Caribbean and in Florida.

But despite the negative backlash she received, Harlow didn’t delete the Tweet. Instead, she took to Twitter to justify her actions. She wrote, “Y’all are literally taking my look and twisting it in a way I never thought possible.” Yahoo Beauty was unable to reach Harlow for comment.

After receiving enough heat, she apologized.

But it seems other makeup artists are also feeling inspired by Irma.

Do you think this look is appropriate?
