Celebrities clutching their healthy smoothies is nothing new. In fact, more often than not, the average A-lister won’t be papped with anything other than a sludge-green concoction. Blake Lively, Reese Witherspoon and Emily Blunt have all been spotted in their workout gear, holding on to an iced pint of liquidised kale.

And while not all nutritionists are convinced by the health benefits of green smoothies. ‘Whole fruit or veg is better for us,’ says Dr Federica Amati, head nutritionist at ZOE and author of Recipes for a Better Menopause. If you don’t tend to eat a healthy, varied diet – and you know you’re deficient in vitamins – then blending your fruits and vegetables into a smoothie is an easy way to get them down.

The latest celeb singing green smoothie’s praises? Hawaiian-born actress Maggie Q.

Best known for playing the secret agent Nikita, Maggie Q is no stranger to the wellness world – she works out regularly, often shares her health and wellness tips on Instagram to her 697K followers, and has even founded her very own supplement company, Activated You.

Maggie has also openly talked about her health issues in the past; ‘I’ve always struggled with gut health,’ she says. ‘The origin of this struggle is unknown to me, but there are various factors that contribute: stress, eating habits, sleep schedules, and changes in day-to-day life, big or small.’

Earlier this year, Maggie confessed on Instagram that she loves starting her day with a morning probiotic smoothie.

‘What leaves me feeling refreshed and nourished is paying attention to the ingredients that I put in my body, and what makes my morning complete is my famous green smoothie,’ she says.

The recipe includes kale, dandelion greens, grapefruit and probiotics – Maggie uses the Advanced Restorative Probiotic from her own brand (although, these are only available in the States).

‘If you have digestive issues, you’re not alone,’ she says. ‘Sometimes all it takes is giving your body the nutrients it needs to aid with proper digestion to feel your best.’
