After searching for a few months for an apartment after moving to Barcelona three years ago from Newport Beach, California, artist Hannah Deau discovered this apartment that was being renovated. Although it was a bit of a “mess” when Hannah saw the space, she says the landlord was amazing, and she “just knew it would be beautiful after it was complete.”

Elements that initially sold Hannah on the rental were the French doors, Spanish tiles, high ceilings, and a gorgeous exposed brick wall. But while the space came with lots of architectural detail, Hannah’s added plenty of her own personality to the space. “My walls are also now filled with my art, and I have around 20 plants now filling up the space. I am also all about warm lighting and candles. I love at nighttime how warm and comfortable my place feels.”

Hannah says that there weren’t a ton of challenges to moving into this apartment, “outside of a few minor things that come with having an extremely old apartment in an old building!” And she reports that even though the rental is located in Barcelona’s busy El Raval neighborhood, she says her home is blissfully quiet. “It faces the interior of the building, so not much of an amazing view, however, the amount of silence I have when I’m home is amazing.”

Thanks, Hannah!
