The last time we saw the Shipman and West families was back in 2019, for another Christmas Special, where Nessa (played by Ruth Jones) professed her love to Smithy (played by James Corden) and got down on one knee to ask him to marry her. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

A video, shared on social media, has shown how a group of fans at the Bassett Bar, also known as The Dolphin, in Barry reacted to the last few minutes of the final episode. And as some viewers of the TV series will know, The Dolphin and Barry itself, have played a pivotal role in the comedy series for nearly two decades.
The video, which has been shared on the Visit Barry Island's Facebook page, shows the Vale of Glamorgan fans cheering as Nessa refused to ask Smithy for his hand in marriage again, but they were then seemingly moved as Smithy declared his love for Nessa and tried to win her back. The fans erupted into a cheer when the scene then cut to Nessa and Smithy's wedding.
On Wednesday evening, James Corden revealed on Instagram that he had watched the last ever episode with Ruth Jones, who co-created the show with him back in 2007. In a heartfelt post, Corden revealed that it had been "the greatest privilege" to make the show.
With a photo of the pair posing for a selfie in front of a Christmas tree, James Corden's caption read: "We had to be together to watch tonight. We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin and Stacey. It has been the greatest privilege making this show over the past 17 years." He continued: "The years go by so fast, let's hope the next beats the last. Happy Christmas x". You can read more about this here.
