Love The Traitors? The Inheritance will be your next TV obsession
'Where there's a will, there's a payday'. That's the teaser for The Inheritance, a 'wickedly immersive' new reality game show from the makers of The Traitors that we are giddy with excitement for right now.
Channel 4 and Studio Lambert announced the news today (14 February), explaining that the upcoming 12-episode series 'filled with drama, mind games and mischief' will follow a group of contestants as they bid to take home a chunk of a vast fortune.
Here's everything we know so far...
When is The Inheritance release date?
There's no news on a release date just yet, but we'll update this page as soon as there is – because trust us, we really can't wait!
What will happen on The Inheritance?
The exciting plot synopsis reads: 'Twelve strangers arrive at a grand English country estate, lured by one irresistible opportunity: to inherit a chunk of a vast fortune. The fortune belonged to a glamorous benefactor known only as The Deceased who has left video messages for the players from beyond the grave.
'To release money from The Inheritance, players must work as a team to complete a series of challenges. The better they perform; the more money is released. But The Deceased had a wicked sense of humour and one ruthless condition: to win the game they must persuade all others that only they should be entrusted with the money.
'It’s a game of wit, willpower, persuasion, and betrayal, where it’s not about who deserves the money, but who’s willing to outplay, out-charm, and out-scheme the competition to claim it.'
Steve Handley, Channel 4’s Head of Reality & Entertainment, said: 'The Inheritance isn’t just a battle of strategy, alliances, and inevitable betrayals - it’s a cocktail of drama, jeopardy, and outright mischief that Reality fans love. I can’t wait to see how our players handle the challenges, the twists, and a few sneaky surprises.'
Tim Harcourt, Studio Lambert’s Chief Creative Officer, added: 'We often work together in life and yet some team-members seem to get so much more than others. This incredible game - part Knives Out, part Succession – can finally show us why this happens… and what better way to explore the notions of fairness and entitlement than through the delicious prism of a fight over a will.'
Who will play The Deceased in The Inheritance?
It's the question on everybody's lips after news of The Inheritance broke. Handley has teased that the role of The Deceased will be given to a 'British icon', but who might that be? Our thoughts immediately turned to national treasure Stephen Fry, but we'll have to wait and see...
Suffice to say, we're already obsessed with The Inheritance, and just know that some truly iconic television moments await us!
