We love Stacey Solomon's handmade angel Christmas tree topper
We always love to get inspiration from Stacey Solomon’s brilliant craft ideas. And last night (Wednesday 18 December) she turned her attention to all things festive on her Christmas craft show, Stacey Solomon's Crafty Christmas.
Returning for another year, the hour-long special which you can catch on the BBC iPlayer, sees Stacey along with her family and friends, make a number of different Christmas decorations and gifts, getting us into the festive spirit.
And one craft in particular really stood out. Who would have thought that an empty plastic water bottle, a ping pong and some spare fabric could be turned into a fabulous tree topper, taking pride of place at the top of your Christmas tree?
“Now we always make a mascot. We did our naughty elves, the nutcrackers. Guess what it is this year?” Stacey asked her husband, Joe Swash. As soon as he sees the white fabric, he quickly works out that they’ll be making fairies. And not just any fairies, but the ones at the top of the tree.
So, if you’ve not decided on a Christmas tree topper yet, or your current one could do with a bit of a break, Stacey takes us through the quick and easy steps to make our very own angel tree toppers.
With an empty plastic bottle for the angel’s body and a ping pong ball for the head, it soon starts to take shape. And the great thing is, you should have most, if not all, of the bits and bobs that you will need to complete this festive craft in your home already. We always appreciate the way that Stacey reuses and recycles as part of her crafting.
Making it even more special, Stacey incorporates some of the underskirt of her daughter’s flower girl dress, from the couple's wedding in 2022. “It’s not just a fairy for the top of the tree, it’s a memory from our wedding,” Stacey explains.
Depending on your Christmas theme or decor this year, you can even add some fun adornments and embellishments, with Stacey attaching a fluffy strip of fabric to make the angel’s skirt even more charming. While Joe transforms a sparkly star decoration to make a tiny little hat for his fairy, adding a glittery touch to its ensemble.
And what you end up with is a Christmas decoration that you’ll cherish and look forward to bringing out year after year. “When we put her up on the tree, she’ll always remind us of our wedding day,” Stacey concludes.
