We love Sara Davies' stylish découpage Halloween pumpkins
Whether you’re looking to get your home ready for Halloween or want to embrace the colder weather with some autumnal decor, crafting queen and Dragon’s Den star Sara Davies has shared a rather understated Halloween DIY project that we can’t wait to try out. And according to her, “it’s a brilliant starter craft for anyone who wants to get going.”
Now, you might be familiar with découpage eggs for Easter, or maybe you’ve upcycled something with the papercraft technique, but did you know that you could use it to create your very own unique Halloween decorations?
So, if you’re not a huge fan of the bright orange and spooky black and white patterns that many traditional Halloween decorations come in, or you’re looking to give your decor a bit of an update for the autumnal months more generally, Sara has shared how to transform some old or inexpensive pumpkin ornaments over on her Instagram.
Taking to her Instagram, Sara admits that even though a napkin typically has multiple layers, “you only want the one with the pattern on,” for this craft. And depending on the size of the pumpkin or piece of decor that you’re choosing to découpage, this will determine the sort of size you should be tearing your napkin into.
So, for smaller items, you will need smaller sections of napkin, with them growing in size for larger pumpkins or items.
Sara stuck the napkin to the pumpkins with a glue and water mixture, covering the pumpkin with the patterned napkin. Sara then displayed the pumpkin on her sideboard in her home.
These are such an easy project for a beginner crafter. And the best thing is, depending on the style or pattern of napkin that you use, you could create an array of understated and elegant pumpkins or go all out with bolder and brighter motifs.
