As excitement for the final episode of Gavin & Stacey, set to air on Christmas Day, ramps up, Love Island stars Liam Reardon and Millie Court have recreated one of Gavin & Stacey's iconic phone call scenes.

The pair, who won Love Island in 2021, have been described as the real life Gavin & Stacey, as Liam, 25, is from Merthyr Tydfil while 28-year-old Millie is from Essex. Last Christmas, referencing their backgrounds, Millie posted to Instagram that they were enjoying a "Gavin & Stacey style Xmas".

The beloved BBC series opens with a giggling Stacey West (Joanna Page) talking on the phone to Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne), way back in 2007. The pair have been flirting over the phone for six months as Stacey works for a company that is a supplier for Gavin's work, and the pair are planning to meet for the first time the next day.

Gavin tells her, "You've got a right dirty laugh do you know that? You have - you sound like Barbara Windsor." Stacey replies, "I know it's the smoking." Now, Liam and Millie, the modern Gavin & Stacey, have recreated the scene as if the characters were Gen Z.

As a Welshman, Liam takes up the role of Stacey while Millie recreates Gavin lines. Millie starts off by telling Liam, "I'm obsessed with your laugh, it's well dirty. You sound like Barbara Windsor."

However, Liam has to ask who Barbara Windsor is. Responding to Millie's question of whether he is a smoker, Liam says: "Nah, that's grim. But I do vape."

Millie replies, "Didn't peg you for a vaper. Bit of an ick not gonna lie." However, just like Stacey did in the series, Liam promises that he will be giving up soon: "Nah, I know. I am stopping after New Year's, and I'm definitely stopping when they ban disposable vapes in July."

Liam then goes on to ask Millie, "D'you think the vibes will be the same in person like?" and she replies, "I don't know, I'm more used to meeting the old fashioned way." "On Hinge?" Liam asks.

Millie then adds that meeting up in person is "proper raw-dogging it" and says "You better not be a perv or nothing." Liam reassures her, saying "You've seen my Snap," and Millie agrees, adding that Liam's "good skin" is a "green flag".

"Well, it's all about the cleanser, innit?" Liam replies. When Liam asks Millie what her biggest green flag, she references her infamous performance on the Love Island talent show, saying that she is "really good at playing the piano."

As the pair's conversation gets cut off by someone at his work, he voice notes Millie to say that he can't wait to meet her. Millie sends one back, recreating Gavin's iconic line, "Only 17 hours to go now babes."

Liam and Millie's video has been met with plenty of laughter. One person commented on the video: "I sense an Oscar nomination on the horizon. This is too funny." For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter

Another Welsh Love Island contestant, Nicole Samuel, who made it to the final of this year's series, added: "Love this". Brett Staniland, who appeared on the same series as Liam and Millie, also wrote: "My meme of you two has finally come true."

Another person commented: "Liam may need a little more help in the acting department! But Millie you are fabulous."

Gavin & Stacey: The Finale airs on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
