Love Island is famed for its stunning singletons on the hunt for romance, and it's no secret that some of these beauties have had a little help in the looks department.

The show has faced criticism for not showcasing plus-sized bodies, and it's hard to overlook the flawless appearances of the cast - setting some seriously high beauty standards.

There's been a significant increase in young people opting for cosmetic surgery, and our Love Islanders are no exception.

Known as 'tweakments' - which can include treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections, fillers and extensive facial and injectable skincare regimes - the pressure to look effortlessly flawless has never been higher.

But what did they look like before their transformations? Some contestants are barely recognisable pre-villa thanks to various beauty enhancements.

Medical Aesthetic Injector and Skin Specialist, Emma Wedgwood, says there's a "definite rise in the popularity of tweakments and cosmetic surgery among young women" and a big part of this is "due to the influence of social media and reality TV shows like Love Island."

She adds: "Platforms like Instagram and TikTok emphasise looks, which makes more people aware of and interested in aesthetic enhancements. These treatments have become more accessible and normalised, making them more appealing to younger people."

Like many women, some of the Love Island ladies may be succumbing to societal pressures to undergo these cosmetic procedures. There's been a noticeable increase in young women opting for treatments such as Botox and fillers.

Emma added: "When celebrities and influencers openly share their cosmetic procedures, it helps more young women consider these options if it's something they want to have done.

"As an expert who works in aesthetics, it's often pretty clear what treatments Love Island participants might have had," says Emma. "Many Islanders also seem to have had rhinoplasty, breast augmentations, and dental veneers. For example, you can often tell when contestants have had multiple non-surgical fillers because sometimes it can make them look over-augmented and not very harmonised compared to older photos."

A recent report confirmed that the demand for Botox is rapidly increasing. Meanwhile, another study observed a "shift in behaviours" among young adults, finding that they're opting for these treatments as a form of "prevention over correction". This could explain why so many Islanders have chosen to have these injections prior to gracing our screens.

Advanced Aesthetics Doctor & General Practitioner, Dr Chandni Rajani agreed that it's not just aesthetics that are on the rise. "Non-invasive treatments such as chemical peels and laser therapy are also in demand for improving skin texture and tone, tackling issues like acne scars, pigmentation, and sun damage.

"Finally, treatments like micro-needling and radio-frequency treatments are getting more popular because of the ability to address a range of skin concerns such as fine lines, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone." But where does it end? These treatments come at a cost, both for your appearance, and your pocket.

So let's take a look at the Islanders' transformations – some through hard work and some, just possibly, through a little extra help...

Harriett Blackmore

Harriett has left fans stunned with her pre-Love Island appearance, with many claiming they wouldn't even recognise the reality TV star before her stint in the villa. The 24 year old dancer hasn't publicly addressed any cosmetic procedures, but online detectives have unearthed footage of her on her YouTuber friend Saffron Barker's channel from when she was significantly younger.

In the full video - shared to Saffron's YouTube video five years ago - Saffron had challenged herself to live in her car for 24 hours, with Harriett joining her for a brief stint in the car.

Love Island fans were stunned to see how different Harriett, who would have been around 19 years old at the time of filming the video, looked in the clip. Many took to TikTok to share their shock.

"No way this is the same girl," one person said, as a second added: "nah that's acc a different person". A third person wrote: "Now I remember where I'd seen her," and another penned: "omg she looks so different".

Fans were quick to shower her with compliments on her stunning transformation. Prior to joining the show, Tiffany had shed three stone through a rigorous diet and exercise regime.

She posted before-and-after photos of her journey, attributing her new look to a "lifestyle change" that took place over a year. "30th October 2019- 30th October 2020, hard work pays off," she captioned the inspiring post.

As reported by Hello!, Samantha confessed she's a fitness fanatic who loves skincare and isn't afraid to admit getting Botox treatments.

She said: "I go to the gym a lot anyway, so I feel like I was ready body wise. I'm an honest person, the only thing I've had done, genuinely, was Botox. I get it every couple of months. So, I get it at Christmas and then I get it at the beginning of the summer."

She elaborated: "So, I've had my Botox done and I've had like a facial, switched up my skincare, but that's it really. I get my lips done, but these haven't been touched since Christmas. So other than that, I haven't really done much."

Jess White

Prior to stepping into the villa, Jess got herself in tip-top shape with an impressive body transformation. She revealed that she'd put herself through a gruelling six-month workout with her personal trainer to sculpt her toned figure.

Jess's personal trainer took over Instagram to accolade her transformation: "6 MONTH TRANSFORMATION BABY DECEMBER - MAY. Can't tell you how proud I am of this girl!."

"A few months in Jess was getting irritated that she didn't get those QUICK results that fad diets often sell you. After her holiday she got straight back on it with her sessions & tracking and it's all fallen into place. Consistency & self discipline is key. Now it's time to build @jessamywhite forever proud."

He then added a peach emoji to round off his gushing post.

The boys

Whilst many assume that treatments are left to the girls, Dr Chandni disagrees. and admits that male contestants will have felt the pressure before appearing on the show, too.

"Some of the Love Island guys may have had aesthetic treatments," he said. "Men usually go for more subtle enhancements compared to women, but the pressure to look good on a show like Love Island can lead them to seek various treatments.

"Some might have had anti-wrinkle injections to smooth out facial lines and keep a youthful look. Others might have opted for dermal fillers to enhance their jawline and chin. Additionally, treatments like teeth whitening, hair transplants, and laser hair removal may also have been considered."

And those poolside muscles might not be they're cracked up to be either.

"Non-invasive body contouring treatments are also becoming popular for men who want to improve their physique without surgery."
