Love Island star heartbroken over death of beloved family member
Love Island star Jake Cornish has shared the sad news that his gran has passed away. The 27-year-old – who has had two stints in the Love Island villa – shared the news on Instagram today, as he posted a picture of him with his grandmother. He wrote beside it: “Heaven has gained another angel. RIP Nan.”
Jake made his second appearance on Love Island last year for the All Stars series, after first appearing on the hit dating show back in 2021. However, he left after just three days. He recently opened up about the real reason for his early departure from the villa.
In a candid interview with the Mirror, the DJ and social media star explained that while he is “thick skinned”, his loved ones “struggled” seeing some negative comments that were made about him.

“I think you do get a bit of help when you leave the show, you do get help, I can't fault them for that,” he said as he explained the support that was on offer. He also added that people who go on shows such as Love Island “know what you're signing up for.”
He continued: “The second time around when I done All Stars, when I left, I kind of forgot about how the shows are filmed, it was a bit different from the first time.
“The first time you're a rookie, you don't know what to expect but the second time, I understood a lot more and I think I just grew out of it. Putting on a show for the cameras, it's either you or it isn't.”
During his few days on Love Island All Stars, Jake appeared in the villa alongside the likes of Kaz Kamwi, Chris Taylor and Georgia Steel. He also faced a reunion with ex-girlfriend Liberty Poole, who he coupled up with during his time in the villa back in 2019.
Following his decision to leave the series after just three days, Jake said in a statement at the time: “After a few amazing days in the villa, I've made the decision to leave Love Island: All Stars as I've realised that now isn't the right time for me to find love as I would never want to force a connection.
“I have no regrets whatsoever as I'm so glad I got to enjoy my time in the villa reuniting with some familiar faces as well as finally getting an opportunity to clear the air with Liberty. I wish her and all of the other islanders the very best and will be cheering them all on from home.”
The second series of Love Island All Stars is currently airing, with the return of a host of former contestants for a second chance at finding love.
