Love Island rule breakers named - 'stealing booze' and 'sneaking private chats'
Love Island stars Munveer Jabbal and Patsy Field have revealed what goes behind-the-scenes at the ITV show's villa, from major rule breaks to private chats off camera.
Speaking exclusively to OK!'s Love Island Dumping Debrief - OK!'s weekly video series where the 2024 cash unpack the latest drama from the series - the former contestants revealed what their cast mates get up when the cameras stop rolling. With just an hour-long programme airing each night, there’s a lot that happens behind-the-scenes that viewers never get to see - with Patsy revealed that Harriett Blackmore and Samantha Kenny would be told off by producers a lot.
“Harriett was always trying to sneak in conversations away from the mic when she could,” she says, whilst pretending to cover her microphone. Munveer adds, “Samantha was stealing alcohol. She was taking everyone else’s alcohol.”
When the islanders would head to bed, there was a lot of noise coming from Samantha and Joey Essex’s bed, Patsy teases - but not for the reason you’d expect. “Samantha was the chief snorer,” she laughs. “But she was a sexy snorer. She would do a cute little snore - it was quite sensual. I don’t know what she was dreaming about - maybe Joey!”
On the days where boys and girls had to separate to save the drama for the cameras, it was Welsh couple Nicole Samuel, 24, and Ciaran Davies, 21, who couldn’t keep their hands off one another. “When the cameras are not rolling, Nicole and Ciaran are sneaking kisses. They would open fridge doors and snog behind them,” Patsy says.
Munveer adds, “Ciaran is always so smitten. You could say he’s a little bit nervous - he’d get butterflies and be like, ‘What do I do in this situation?’ because he’s so young. But he carries himself so well. He’s so smitten and she reciprocates that.”
It's hotting up in the Love Island villa - particularly in Joey Essex’s bed, as the TOWIE star smooches up a storm with bombshell Grace Jackson. While the couple, who originally met on holiday and briefly dated, claim they haven’t seen each other in over a year, recently dumped islanders Munveer and Patsy aren’t so sure that’s true.
“Did the romance ever stop? Did it ever end?” Patsy, 29, laughs. “It didn’t look like they were picking up after a long time of being apart at all.”
Munveer, 30, also suspects that Grace and Joey’s relationship could have been rekindled just before Love Island started. He adds, “The way it looks, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Office administrator Patsy and recruitment manager Munveer made it to 10 days in the Love Island villa before being dumped by their fellow co-stars - shortly followed by Samantha Kenny, 26. Liverpudlian star Samantha was coupled up with Joey, but when Grace chose to couple up with the TOWIE star, Samantha was left single and dumped from the show.
“Our jaws were on the floor when we were watching,” pal Patsy says. “Samantha and Joey were compatible and he never verbalised that they were in a friendship couple at all.”
She adds that despite telling Samantha that he wanted to be with her, Joey wouldn’t put in the work. “There were some nights when he wouldn’t go near her for hours. We said to her in there, ‘Babe, that’s weird.’
“So she knew something wasn’t right and she wasn’t getting full level commitment from him. But no one expected his ex to walk in and she was kicked to the curb.”
As for Patsy and Munveer, they admit that they never felt a spark despite being coupled up together. “It was moving too quickly for me,” Munveer says. “I’ve never watched the show before and I said to Patsy, ‘Look, this is crazy. It takes me a little while to get warmed up.’ For me, a snog is a big thing. My mum is watching!”
Patsy adds, “I tried! I said to him, ‘We’re on Love Island!’ Maybe if he’d watched the show, he would have been more snappy.”
During Munveer’s time in the villa, fans were quick to complain on social media that he was hardly in the show. What was he doing when the cameras weren’t on him? “I was doing face masks!” he says. “There was a lot of drama to begin with and I tend to step back because I’m not a confrontational person.”
Meanwhile, Patsy wasn’t afraid to get into scraps, standing up to Jess White over her treatment of Harriett Blackmore. However, she reveals that she also argued with Ayo Odukoya - but the squabble never aired.
“We didn’t always see eye to eye. We had a few heated conversations that weren’t aired,” she said. “I was so close to [his love interest] Mimii Ngulube and then when Uma Jammeh came in, I thought he wasn’t being honest with them both.
“I was very vocal and he didn’t like that. He said, ‘I’m a very private person,’ and I kept thinking to myself, ‘Babe, you’re on Love Island!’ You can’t go around saying one thing to one girl and another thing to another.”
As for the future, Munveer says that he’s taking a break from dating - but Patsy is only just getting started. “It’s no secret that I was looking for a connection. Maybe I go in too hard but that’s me, I’m never going to change. I’m looking to find a guy but who knows what’s ahead - I’m riding the wave!”
