Love Actually fans heartbroken over hidden detail in famous Emma Thompson scene
Everyone knows about the iconic Love Actually scene which broke the hearts of many across the world, but now fans have been left heartbroken once again after spotting a tiny detail. The legendary Christmas classic has been on our screens for years and it’s somewhat of a tradition to watch it, but eagle-eyed fans have noticed that Emma Thompson's character matched her earrings and outfit to the necklace she thought she was going to get from Alan Rickman..
The necklace scene is one of the most talked-about moments from the 2003 Christmas classic as viewers watch Karen opens her present expecting it to be a necklace that she found in her husband Harry's coat pocket.
However, she is devastated when she unwraps a Joni Mitchell CD, realising that Harry has bought the necklace for someone else – namely his secretary Mia (Heike Makatsch) – before Karen goes to the bedroom to cry.

However, fans have picked up on a small detail that may have initially flown over many people's heads: Karen was wearing earrings and an outfit seemingly perfectly chosen to match the necklace she was expecting to unwrap.
After the fact was posted in a TikTok video, which read: "The way she matched her earrings to the necklace. The way she holds it together for the kids. The way she pats down the bed. I stand with Emma Thompson."
One fan, clearly shocked by the revelation, replied: "WAIT. What do you mean she matched her earrings?!! How have I NEVER noticed that???"
While another added: "But how have I never noticed the earrings," and a third wrote: "I've always said the earrings, lipstick and cardigan all ready to match it is the saddest part of all."
If you can remember, the necklace in question was a gold heart pendant with a little ruby jewel in the middle. So, on Christmas day, Karen wore ruby earrings, a reddish cardigan and red lipstick.
The festive favourite, which was released in 2003 and directed by Richard Curtis, has become one of the most successful Christmas films ever made.
It features a star-studded cast including Hugh Grant, Martine McCutcheon, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson, with Denise Richards and even Ant and Dec making appearances. The romantic comedy follows eight interconnected couples navigating their love lives in the lead up to Christmas.
However, it's recently been revealed that acting runs in the family for Emma Thompson, who plays Karen in the film - her younger sister is none other than soap legend Sophie Thompson.
