Lots of lakeshore dining this summer

May 18—PORT HENRY — Residents of Port Henry and Westport will have two new options this summer for lakeside dining on Lake Champlain.

The Dockside Cafe opened Thursday at the BridgeView Harbor Marina in Port Henry and the Portside Restaurant is planning a Saturday, June 1 debut at the Westport Marina.

Lori Deyo said her Dockside Cafe comes after the success of the Saturday-Sunday breakfasts she cooked at the Old Miners Tavern in Moriah this winter.

"Those did very well," she said. "We picked up another 50 possible customers for the Dockside."

Some of the specialty breakfasts from the Old Miners will be coming to the Dockside Cafe, she said.

"We've got a lot going on," Deyo said. "Every other Thursday we'll have music with a DJ. We'll have specials like Eggs Benedict and your choice of 13 flavors of pancakes. Every Friday will be all-you-can-eat Pancake Night."

The Dockside features outside dining under a canopy for breakfast and lunch overlooking Lake Champlain. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., closed Monday and Tuesday. The café will be open for dinner Thursday through Saturday, then every night after June 21.

"All my dishes are homemade," Deyo said. "Nothing from a box. If we can make it homemade, we make it."

In Westport, Alyssa Carroll, Kelsey Carroll, and Beck Simpson will be running the Portside Restaurant, located in the location of a previous eatery, The Galley.

"We're thrilled to usher in this exciting new chapter for our restaurant," said co-owner Kelsey Carroll in a release. "With Portside, we aim to honor the familial legacy of The Galley while infusing it with fresh energy and creativity. Our team is dedicated to providing excellent local cuisine, warm hospitality, and a dining experience that captures the essence of lakeside living."

Portside Restaurant represents three generations of the Carroll family and will feature seasonal lakeside fare with a Hawaiian twist, a nod to their familial heritage, Kelsey said.

She said they're going to focus on good food and warm hospitality.

"We're inviting guests to embark on a culinary journey that celebrates the vibrant flavors of the region," she said. "In anticipation of our grand opening, we are actively seeking passionate and talented individuals to join our kitchen team. From line cooks to sous chefs, we are looking for individuals who share our commitment to excellence and are eager to contribute to the success of Portside Restaurant."

The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner Thursday-Sunday in June and September, and every day in July and August. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and until 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

"From our carefully curated menu showcasing locally sourced ingredients to our warm and welcoming atmosphere, every aspect of Portside has been thoughtfully crafted to delight the senses and create unforgettable moments for our guests," Kelsey said.

"We set sail on this exciting new adventure."
