Knives Out 2 confirms UK cinema release Netflix

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be released in UK cinemas before it hits Netflix.

The highly-anticipated thriller will be shown at select Odeon, Vue and Cineworld cinemas across the country, a full month before it arrives on the streaming service.

Fans will be able to catch the Knives Out sequel on the big screen between Wednesday, November 23 and Tuesday, November 29.

Netflix movies have received limited cinemas in the UK before now, but have usually been screened in independent cinemas rather than larger cinema chains.

Director Rian Johnson said that he was "over the moon" about audiences getting to see the film in cinemas before its Netflix release.

"These movies are made to thrill audiences, and I can't wait to feel the energy of the crowd as they experience Glass Onion," said Johnson. "Between this and the release on Netflix in December, I'm excited that audiences around the world will be able to enjoy the film!"

"This is an exciting moment in our relationship with streaming platforms and for the wider ecosystem as a whole," Tim Richards, BFI chair and Vue International's founder and CEO, added in a statement.

"Studios have recognized the value of the theatrical window and now we're seeing Netflix embracing the big-screen theatrical release, too.

"The Knives Out franchise has a huge following and it's fantastic that fans of the first movie will be able to experience Glass Onion on our big screens – where all great films deserve to be seen."

Knives Out 2 is set in Greece and follows Craig's detective Benoit Blanc as he investigates a new murder mystery on a private island owned by tech billionaire Miles, played by three-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton.

The standalone sequel's all-star cast includes Janelle Monáe as tech entrepreneur Andi, who's Miles' former business partner – plus Dave Bautista as Duke Cody, a controversial YouTuber, Kate Hudson as fashion designer Birdie Jay, and WandaVision's Kathryn Hahn as Claire, a state governor eying a Senate run.
