Marks & Spencer's new £35 blouse has major designer vibes
Leopard print might be trending – again – but by this point, it's not really a trend, is it? Loved for decades by everyone from Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy to Blondie and Kate Moss, it's a classic, a neutral, and a permanent fixture in any hard-working capsule wardrobe.
But as timeless as leopard print might be, it's certainly been getting a lot of love from the fashion set lately with celebrities, editors and influencers alike bringing it to the forefront of their looks.
Leopard print peppered not only the SS24 runways (Nina Ricci, Celine, Dolce & Gabbana...), but also the AW24 shows (Dior, Zimmermann, Isabel Marant...) making now the perfect time to add a touch of animalistic flair to your repertoire, knowing it'll get a lot of wear right through to 2025.
In her recent article on how to style leopard print trousers, Red's always chic fashion director Oonagh Brennan described investing in a pair as 'the coolest thing you can do for your wardrobe', explaining that any 'tacky connotations' can be left in the dust with some smart styling.
To nail leopard print, Oonagh recommends teaming it with classic pieces like a white or striped shirt, a navy blazer and gold jewellery. Rather than going full 'mob wife', we're all about combining the playful with the polished for a fun, fresh and elegant finish – think a more grown-up, 'quiet luxury' take on leopard print. If it intimidates you, opt for a 'pop' via your accessories – try a bag, belt, scrunchie or trainers.
If you're feeling bolder, Oonagh is a strong advocate of teaming leopard print with stripes ('a perfect match') for cool off-duty dressing. Leopard print jeans with a blue and white striped shirt? It's a big yes from her, especially when finished off with some bright red pumps. In fact, red and leopard print might just be our favourite combo, with burgundy an elegant swap for autumn.
Ready to liven up your wardrobe with some leopard print clothing? In terms of brands for whom leopard print is a long-time signature, look to GANNI, Damson Madder, RIXO, Sezane and Balzac Paris. Don't overlook good old M&S either, as the high street giant has jumper on board the leopard print trend and dropped a number of great pieces for autumn, many with designer vibes.
Below are just a few of the leopard print pieces we're coveting now, including accessories for 'dipping a toe' into the trend, skirts and tops for going one step further, and dresses and jackets for those who feel bolder.
