My London: Mark Wahlberg
LA with my wife and our four kids. Home is wherever my family is, including my siblings and my mom.
Where do you stay in London?
I’d prefer to keep this private!
If you could buy any building in London and live there, which would it be?
Well my kids won’t be happy if I don’t say Buckingham Palace. Who wouldn’t want to live in a palace? Although I’m not sure I would be too happy with people standing at my gate all day taking photos.
Best meal you’ve had?
I’m gonna say UK Wahlburgers, of course! This location is our 31st restaurant and the first outside North America. It was great to have friends like Octavia Spencer, Liam Payne and Harry Kane come to the opening.
Bus, taxi or Tube?
I usually just travel in cars. I love the idea of going incognito on the Tube, though.
Where do you work out?
Because I travel so much and my schedule can be crazy, I bring equipment with me and work out in my hotel. However, if I had more time, I’d love to visit an F45 gym here in London.
When I’m here I try and get to Hedonism, a great wine shop. I picked up a few bottles, including a magnum of 1994 Petrus to celebrate at our restaurant opening.
What would you do if you were Mayor for the day?
Shut down the Tube so I could ride around all day like a local. I’d also love to set up a London office for the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. We work to improve the quality of life for inner city youths, which is something any city could benefit from.
What’s your biggest extravagance?
Probably my private jet. I feel very fortunate to have it because it allows me to get home to see my family quickly when I’m filming on location.
Who do you call when you want to have fun in the capital?
My good friend Howard Thorpe. We meet up every time I come to London. He’s one of the funniest, most positive people I know and is a great ambassador for people with disabilities.
What do you collect?
It’s pretty cliché, but I’d have to say watches and sneakers. My wife makes fun of me for it, but it makes me happy.
Best thing a cabbie has ever said to you?
I don’t take cabs, but maybe I should because it sounds like your cabbies are fun characters.
Who is the most iconic Londoner in history?
Does the Queen count?
Where would you recommend for a first date?
Milos is a great spot for a date. The building is grade-II listed and they have a private room with a wine cellar and beautiful mural.
Ever had a run-in with a police officer here?
No, I try my best to only have positive interactions with law enforcement.
What makes someone a Londoner?
It’s got to be the accent. When you hear it, you know.
Wahlburgers opens 20 May, 8-9 James Street, Covent Garden, WC2
