At just 21, Lola Tung has stolen millions of hearts on and off screen, thanks to her winning turn as Belly in Amazon Prime's The Summer I Turned Pretty. Based on the cult-favorite book series by Jenny Han, the show's ethereal beach townscape, nostalgia for teenage summers, and magic of watching a first crush unfold turned out to be an irresistible formula that had fans everywhere falling in love with the series and its cast of 20-somethings.

Tung, in particular, is quickly becoming part of a new generation of Hollywood It girls. Whether she's sitting in the front row at Coach or dressed in cool, Gen Z fodder like a varsity-style dress or sequined mini, she's established herself as one to watch on the fashion front. In fact, her attendance at Coach runway shows turned into a starring role in campaigns for the brand, and before long, she became the face of the company’s sustainable (and Zoomer-loved) subsidiary line, Coachtopia.

Today, the actress stars in “Have a Wasty Holiday,” Coach's latest campaign, which aims to spread awareness about the waste produced during the holiday season. According to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the season causes a 25 to 43 percent uptick in waste production, with $8 billion dollars spent on unwanted gifts, 10% of which are projected to end up in a landfill.

The new short film from Coach, which nods to the claymation and animated Christmas movies of our childhood, tells the story of Coachtopia creature Wasty and its mission to eliminate waste during the festivities alongside Tung. “Hopefully, Wasty, the story, and the creativity surrounding this whole campaign will spark excitement in people to be excited about sustainability and be excited about Coachtopia,” Tung tells InStyle. “I know it did for me.”

Ahead, Tung speaks to InStyle about the new campaign, her favorite gift of all time, and which Coachtopia items are on her wishlist this year.

On Partnering With Coachtopia

“I love their sustainability initiative, but I think it was so cool that they were collaborating with Gen Z artists and activists to really make sure that this new line spoke to our generation and addressed the pressing issue of climate change and making sure to tackle the sustainability initiative in a real way and holding themselves accountable.”

On the Sustainability

“Climate change is a very pressing issue and will continue to be that's not going to go away. Taking steps to make huge industries that are a part of everyone's lives more sustainable is one way to begin to address it and deal with it.”

Her Favorite Coachtopia Pieces Right Now

“This is something that me and my mom are in agreement about, we are both huge fans of the Cloud Tote bag. That one is fabulous. I love the new Puffer Coat that they're coming out with. I love a puffer coat.”

What She’s Gifting for the Holidays

I'll be shopping some Coachtopia for some family members, and I think a handmade gift can always be really nice, or an experience.”

The Best Gift She’s Ever Received

“One of my favorite gifts was [when] my mom got me and my sister Hamilton tickets when I was in eighth grade. I was obsessed with that whole cast recording in middle school, and it's a big thing.”

On Becoming a Viral TikTok Sound (More Than Once)

“I'm just really grateful. All the videos under the sound are so cute and fun. People are having a good time with it. I've had friends hear the sound and send it to me once they discovered [it was me] like, Oh my God, I didn't even know this was you. Yeah, it's cool seeing Scarlett Johansson use it, like what?!"

Her Go-To Winter Staples

“I love sweater weather. I love my trusty Doc Martins and I love getting to wear a sweater or a sweatshirt. I steal a lot of clothing from my mom. Thanks, mom. She has a lot of great sweatshirts that I've taken with her permission. Sweatshirt girl all the way.”

On How Her Style Has Evolved

“I've definitely discovered what my style is, no matter the changing trends. When you're in middle school or high school, it's like, What's the coolest thing? It's really cool ultimately to figure out the things that you like no matter what. But, I have definitely gotten the opportunity to wear things that I never had in the past, which I'm very grateful for. I really do love fashion, and it's been so cool to be able to wear so many incredible pieces.”
